Senior Citizen’s Dental Care

The dental care of seniors is just as important as those of a child. Most senior citizens encounter different kinds of dental problem such as darkened teeth, root decay, dry mouth, tooth loss, gum disease, etc. as they age. Regular checkups are necessary to monitor the dental care needs of the elderly.

As you age, you become susceptible to cavities. It means that you should exert extra consideration in caring for your teeth. The gums of older people also tend to recede and can result to root exposure. To prevent any serious teeth or gum problem, it is important for senior citizens to follow proper dental care. Plaque can easily build up with poor oral hygiene, but this is especially true of older people.

Always remember to keep good oral health, regardless of your age.

• Brush your teeth at least two times a day using toothpaste with fluoride.
• Flossing should also be done at least once a day.
• Use antiseptic mouthwash at least once a day.
• Schedule a regular checkup with your dentist for cleaning and other oral exams.

Maintaining healthy oral hygiene will prevent you from encountering serious dental problems.
