Veterans Day is observed on November 11 of each year. The day is intended to honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Services. Their brave dedication over the years has allowed us to enjoy the freedoms we cherish today. While Veterans Day is often a day for rest and relaxation, it’s important to remember the reason for the holiday and the brave men and woman behind it.

Hill Air Force Base

The State of Utah is proud to host Hill Air Force Base located south of the city of Ogden, near Clearfield, Riverdale, West Haven, Sunset, and Layton. Hill Air Force Base is the state’s sixth largest employer. Hill is home to the Air Force Materiel Command’s Ogden Air Logistics Complex, a part of the Air Force Sustainment Center. The Air Force Materiel Command’s 75th Air Base Wing (75ABW) is the host unit at Hill.

Hill was named after Major Ployer Peter Hill of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Major Hill died in the service of his country while testing a prototype of the B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber.

On Veterans Day, the people of Utah honor the veterans of Hill as well as all American veterans who have unhesitatingly agreed to put themselves in harm’s way to preserve our safety and values.
